چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the application of nonbinary low density parity check (LDPC) codes over Galois field GF(q) for both single-input single-output (SISO) and multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels using higher order modulations. As opposed to the widely studied binary systems that employ joint detection and channel decoding, we propose a nonbinary system where optimal signal detection is performed only once followed by channel decoding. To reduce the complexity of proposed system, we first develop a low complexity LDPC decoding algorithm over GF(q) in the logarithmic domain. We then provide a quasi-cyclic construction of nonbinary LDPC codes which not only allows linear-time encoding, but also gives comparable performance to the best known progressive edge growth (PEG) codes. Our results show that the proposed system that employs regular nonbinary LDPC codes outperforms systems using the best optimized binary irregular LDPC codes in both performance and complexity.

Efficient and Reliable Power Line Communications through Coding and Diversity Techniques

Recognizing the resemblance of power line communication (PLC) channels and the frequency-selective radio-frequency (RF) fading channels, this paper considers efficient and reliable PLC through the joint exploitation of coding and diversity techniques. A serial concatenation is constructed which comprises a nonbinary low-density parity-check (LDPC) code, one of the best-performing error correcti...

Low-Density Parity-Check Codes for Data Storage and

For high density magnetic recording channels and memory systems, low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes with probabilistic decoding are replacing Reed-Solomon (RS) codes or Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes with conventional algebraic decoding. The main benefit of LDPC codes over the RS and BCH codes is that LDPC codes can provide lower error probabilities than equivalent conventional codes...

Joint Detection/Decoding Algorithms for Nonbinary LDPC Codes over ISI Channels

This paper is concerned with the application of nonbinary low-density parity-check (NB-LDPC) codes to binary input inter-symbol interference (ISI) channels. Two low-complexity joint detection/decoding algorithms are proposed. One is referred to as max-log-MAP/X-EMS algorithm, which is implemented by exchanging soft messages between the max-log-MAP detector and the extended min-sum (EMS) decoder...

Analyse et construction de codes LDPC non-binaires pour des canaux à évanouissement. (Analysis and Design of Non-Binary LDPC Codes over Fading Channels)

Over the last 15 years, spectacular advances in the analysis and design of graph-based codes and iterative decoding techniques paved the way for the development of error correction systems operating very close to the theoretical Shannon limit. A prominent role has been played by the class of Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes, introduced in the early 60's by Gallager's and described latter i...

LDPC-coded orbital angular momentum (OAM) modulation for free-space optical communication.

An orbital angular momentum (OAM) based LDPC-coded modulation scheme suitable for use in FSO communication is proposed. We demonstrate that the proposed scheme can operate under strong atmospheric turbulence regime and enable 100 Gb/s optical transmission while employing 10 Gb/s components. Both binary and nonbinary LDPC-coded OAM modulations are studied. In addition to providing better BER per...
